Physical Therapy

What can I expect during Physical Therapy?

An examination will be performed which will include performance tests and measures that will be used to gather information on your particular condition. From there, we’ll develop a physical therapy treatment plan.

Treatment usually involves the establishment of a home exercise program that you will practice under the supervision of your physical therapist. Various modalities are used as needed for pain relief, to decrease inflammation and muscular spasms.

Modalities include:

  • Application of heat/ice
  • Ultrasound
  • Therapeutic exercise (one-on-one physical treatment)
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Iontophoresis
  • Traction
  • Decompression therapy

Consultation:

The Physical Therapist at Zanesville Medical Center will provide a consultation with each new patient to determine if a potential new patient has a condition that can be treated with Physical Therapy.

Examination:

The Physical Therapist will then conduct a thorough physical and orthopedic examination to determine the extent of the injuries or conditions.

Foot Scan:

Depending on the condition, the doctor may perform a digital foot scan to determine the three arch support and determine how your gait affects your upper body.

Massage Therapy:

There are a number of soft tissue therapy techniques which can be successfully employed to assist in the reduction of pain and muscle hypertonicity and spasm. Some of these include massage therapy, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular reeducation and stretching. Depending on your condition and response to treatment we may incorporate one of more of these therapies into your treatment plan.

Decompression Therapy:

Discs have been shown to be a predominant site of pain, so treating them as directly as possible makes sense. The blending of focused traction to the site, rehabilitation to the supporting structures, and overall strengthening of the overall musculature makes this treatment unique. Decompression Therapy affects the disc as directly as possible without surgery.

The Wellness Lifestyle

A continuing schedule of regular medical, chiropractic and/or physical therapy checkups can help detect, correct, and maintain optimum spinal and nervous system function. Find out how care, combined with proper diet, exercise and other aspects of good health and personal hygiene can enhance your well-being and help you enjoy life to the fullest. Ask the doctors of Zanesville Medical Center for a care program designed for your age, condition and lifestyle.

Your therapist may also provide hands-on joint mobilization and postural corrections.

Patients will receive regular reevaluations of their progress within physical therapy, which may cause modifications of treatment to achieve the desired outcome.
